Put your keys in your own ignition

When I stopped trying to change him, my life got easier. You see, all these years I’d been trying to make HIM fit into MY life the way I wanted. Imagine giving someone the keys to your car, and then having conflict because they aren’t listening to your backseat driving.

A healthy relationship with a boss, coworker, spouse, etc. is possible when people come together as equals working toward a commonly accepted and agreed to goal. We call it “interdependent relationships.”

It’s much different from codependent relationships.

“Codependent relationships are a type of dysfunctional helping relationship where one person supports or enables another person’s addiction, poor mental health, immaturity, irresponsibility, or under-achievement.”

Lesson learned.
